As reported by The Press and Journal, Highland and Islands Enterprise (HIE), which owns the ski centre and funicular railway at CairnGorm Mountain in Scotland, have decided to purchase £1 million worth of snowmaking equipment in response to the ongoing closure of the resort’s funicular railway, which provides access to higher slopes when operating.

HIE is aiming to install the system by December, with snowmaking taking place on the lower slopes.

The funicular was closed earlier this month over safety concerns relating to structures that support the track, causing significant concern about the possible impact any disruption to the winter season would have on the local economy.

HIE has said it will carry on assisting a response team established to support local businesses affected by the closure of the funicular.

Charlotte Wright, HIE’s Chief Executive, said HIE is expecting to be notified of the results of the investigations into the problems with the funicular in late November or early December.
