Duluth’s city council is expected to take up a resolution on Monday authorising city staff to apply for state and federal grants totalling up to US$150 000 to help purchase an additional pump and four more snowmaking guns.
If successful, this would double the number of snow guns dedicated to Spirit Mountain's Nordic trails and increase snowmaking capacity from 1.5 km of trail at present to 2.5 km.
The pump would increase the maximum mount of water the resort could draw for snowmaking purposes from approximately 4000 to 6000 gallons per minute.
Spirit Mountain would be expected to match half the grant with its own funds, contributing up to US$75 000.
