The French company’s successes included contracts for snowmaking systems in Japan, avalanche safety in the European Alps, cable transport and safety in the US, and cable transport in Scandinavia.
SUFAG, a subsidiary of the MND Group, used the occasion of the Austrian trade show to unveil a brand new snowmaker named ‘Makalu’, in reference to the Himalayan peak, which was first ascended by French mountaineers.
Designed in the design and R&D centre at Sainte Hélène du Lac, the new snowmaker has a high-strength steel barrel and mechanically welded chassis with industrial robots that offer robustness and resistance against external climatic aggressions. The engine power has been increased to 18.5 kW in order to increase the range of the jet and the ballistic water droplets. The new crown of high-strength forged alloy nozzles has a reduced and redistributed number of nozzles to provide improved performance over a wide range of temperatures, including production in marginal temperature conditions.
The stainless steel electrical box uses easily accessible industrial components. It is equipped as standard with the new generation PLC SGC400, which is in use on snowmakers at ski resorts globally.
In order to reduce maintenance and preserve the environment, the 4kW compressor is now‘oil free’. Large covers allowing full access to the equipment. The nozzles fitted to the crown benefit from a low temperature thermochemical treatment of diffusion of atoms which gives them an exceptional hardness and ductility.
