A statement released by the resort said that the cabin detached from the cable during testing and fell to the ground soon after leaving the base terminal. The lift has yet to open to the public and no-one was injured.
Copper Mountain added that Leitner-Poma, the manufacturer of the gondola system, had found no damage to any critical components and that there would be no subsequent additional delays. It is due to open this Saturday.
American Eagle is one of two new lifts set to open at Copper Mountain this season.
