Big Sky Resort in Montana, US, has provided an update on the construction of Ramcharger 8, North America’s first-eight person chairlift, which will be able to transport over 3500 skiers an hour to the top of Andesite Mountain.

Ramcharger 8 gearless drive installed

Last week a direct gearless drive supplied by Doppelmayr, the manufacturer of the chairlift, was installed in the top terminal, while the haul rope – weighing over 33 t – was delivered from Fatzer AG’s factory in Switzerland. It will be spliced using TRUsplice technology from Doppelmayr.

In addition, the lift house and gates at the bottom terminal have been completed. The system’s control panels will be located in the lift house.

Earlier this month the system’s 13 lift towers were installed in a coordinated operation by resort staff, Doppelmayr and Timberline Helicoptors that took less than 12 hours.
