Caucasus Business Week is reporting that Gudauri in Georgia is rebuilding one of its lifts and installing a further six manufactured by Doppelmayr and Poma.

The new infrastructure will boost uplift capacity by three and a half times and give access to new trails that will expand the skiable area by 20%.

A second round of upgrades is also being made to the snowmaking system and a 7.5 km-long cable car system installed, with completion of both projects expected in time for the upcoming season.

Gudauri is Georgia’s largest and highest resort with 32.5 km of slopes and, according to skiresort.info, currently has 11 ski lifts, including one Poma gondola lift, six Doppelmayr chairlifts and four T-bar lifts. The resort received international attention earlier in the year when one of its ski lifts malfunctioned, injuring 11 people.
