The Otago Daily Times reported last week that work has started on replacing the 4-seater chairlift at Coronet Peak in New Zealand with a high-speed 6-seater Telemix lift that is due to begin operating in time for the start of the winter season.

A crane and helicopter are being used to remove the Coronet Express’s towers over the next two weeks. The base station and haul rope have already been disassembled and removed.

Coronet Peak Ski Area Manager, Nigel Kerr, said excavation work had started for the 14 towers required to run the new lift line, and concrete was also being poured to support the new towers.

The manufacturer of the new lift is Leitner Ropeways.
