American Flyer opening delayed by software glitches

Copper Mountain has said that “complications related to lift automation software” are the reason for the continued delay to the opening of the American Flyer chairlift.

The resort in Colorado, US, had initially hoped the lift would begin operating before Christmas. In a statement released on 1 January it said that it expected the programming glitches to be resolved within days, adding that the technology for the lift was new and therefore needed to be properly vetted before opening.

The American Flyer is a 6-person detachable chairlift manufactured by Leitner-Poma of America.

The American Eagle, a lift that includes both 6-person chairs and 8-person gondola cabins, opened on 3 December.
