The Steamboat Pilot & Today is reporting that Steamboat Resort in Colorado, US, is to replace its 30-year old gondola, the Silver Bullet, with a new US$15 million Doppelmayr gondola.

Construction work is due to begin on 15 April next year, a day after the resort’s ski season finishes, and end in November. The new gondola will have 137 cabins compared to its predecessor’s 125 and, with an increased ride speed of 6 metres per second, will increase capacity by 1000 people per hour to a total of 3600.

Alterra Mountain Co., the owner of Steamboat, is financing the project as part of a five-year, US$555 million investment into its portfolio of resorts.
