Purgatory Resort opened its mountain coaster – named the Inferno Mountain Coaster – on August 25. Built by Aquatic Development Group, the coaster runs for 4000 ft and includes a 300-ft vertical drop.

Other features include nine switchbacks and a 360° loop. Drivers can reach speeds of up to 25 mph in places, and can control their speed via a handbrake.

The cost of a ticket is US$20 with each car able to take a maximum of two people.

“The new Inferno Mountain Coaster is an absolute blast to ride,” said Elizabeth Howe, General Manager of Purgatory Resort. “This thrilling new ride zips you through aspen trees with twists and turns revealing incredible views of the San Juan Mountains.”

Howe added: “The Inferno Mountain Coaster is a fantastic new addition to all the other activities at Purgatory Resort, providing one more reason to visit the resort any time of year. The new coaster is a fun ride for all ages, and it gives you the freedom to determine how fast – or slow – you want to go.”
